Florida’s Wild Plan to End Property Taxes Is DOOMED
Desantis continues to push the narrative to end property taxes in Florida. While I personally enjoy the idea of no property taxes on primary residences, where the funding is going to come from to support local counties would also need to change.
According to recent polls, 70% of Floridians are against ending property taxes if it means raising the sales tax from 6% to 12%. Secondly, how the funds would be distributed would be a secondary risk factor, and could make the current system worse. There’s always 2nd and 3rd order consequences to policy changes.
What do you think? Should we shift from funding local services (fire, police, schools, etc.) from property taxes to a sales tax? Or is this just a publicity stunt?
