Recent Mindset & Business Notes

I’ve had the great privilege to hear from great speakers recently including Tim Grover and Jon Gordon. My unedited notes are below. Get to implementing! Hope this helps!

GoBundance (Tim Grover) & Other Notes (Matt King/Group Notes)

  • What happens to us is not as important as how we respond to it

  • Obsessive qualities make you good at things

  • Attraction rather than promotion / do it vs tell people - lead by example

  • To keep it, you have to give it away

  • Relationships compound faster than money

  • The magic you are seeking lies in the work you are unwilling to do

  • What’s your maximum output level? How many days do you NOT go ALL OUT? Next day isn’t promised to anyone. Are you going all out?

  • Burnout comes from distractions

  • Complacency is a mindset, becomes a habit

  • Start having a conversation with yourself every morning.

  • You are born relentless, then we are told to sit down, shut up, etc. everyone has it, just most of us are afraid to use it

  • How you handle your first trauma determines how you are going to be in life - run, ask for help, stand up to it - when you stand up to it that’s how you become relentless

  • Become obsessed with what you want

  • Get into a routine that feeds the obsession

  • Obsession disciplines your emotions

  • Kobe had an obsession with optimizing everything. When you are obsessed, every detail matters.

  • The people around you have to adjust their lifestyle to help you feed your obsession

  • You need a person who is selfish FOR you, to support your obsessions

  • Managing time (bad phrase- it’s about managing everyone else’s time) vs managing focus (you). Manage your focus, not your time.

  • They have it - they figured it out, you aren’t born with it, you have to figure it out

  • Talk less and do more

  • When you’re good, you tell everyone else, when you’re great, they tell you

  • You don’t find happiness, you create happiness

  • Happiness for one person is not happiness for someone else

  • Everything has a price - winning has a price

  • The most joyful thing you can be is authentic

  • Have a short memory for the wins and the losses

Matt King (CEO of GoBundance) Notes:

  • Who is your WHO? Wealth and investment management, estate management, family governance, philanthropy, entity administration, legal advisory, business consultancy, lifestyle and concierge services. Who is on your team?

  • Risk is simply a lack of knowledge and lack of control.

  • Have an investment thesis

  • Where are the opportunities in your business in the next 12-16 months?

Jon Gordon Notes:

  • Know: where are we going and why are we going there

  • Share vision and culture.

  • Have family meetings

  • Identify challenges and solutions

  • Big picture vision + why

  • We get burned out because we forget why we are doing it

  • When we know the why we figure out the how

  • Here’s the setback and here’s where we are going now

  • Always recite the vision and values at every meeting

  • Focus on the future, not the past

  • Focus on attacking a new opportunity

  • Pick one word for the year that will drive you to be your best. It’ll give you meaning and mission passion and purpose.

  • When you appreciate, you elevate

  • Identity is everything. Your word of the year gives you an identity

  • Your thoughts become your reality

  • It all happens through positive relationships

  • No one creates success alone

  • The whole goal of communication is to build community

  • In the void of communication, negativity will fill it.

  • The more connected you become the more connection you’ll have

  • Commitment - we, not me. Committing to others. We always have to go first as leaders.

  • There is a season for everything

  • Success journal at night - what was the one great thing that happened today? Identify the one success thing that happened today

  • What we look for, we find
