Is Momentum “too good to be true”?
Momentum is a unique brokerage, offering many valuable benefits to its agent partners while receiving a very small fee under its 100% commission structure. Some skeptics have suggested there must be a catch because what we offer is “too good to be true.” So, it might help to understand both how we work and why.
Let’s start with why: it’s all about freedom.
Brittany and I honestly love building businesses and sharing what we’ve learned. Using training from our former brokerage, our personal reading and studies, and life lessons from numerous trials and errors, we figured out how to build a big, successful real estate business. We worked countless hours in the field and built a $1,000,000 net worth, and it was great -- until it wasn’t. In 2019, as new parents, our priorities changed; we wanted a career more conducive to family life. At the same time, our shared passion for teaching, which we did a lot of at our former brokerage, was being limited by corporate policies and politics. We were frustrated.
We decided to create a new path in real estate that would let us phase out our work in the field and take greater control of our lives. We sought the freedom to teach what and how we wanted, with useful, real-world information and no candy-coated BS, and to initiate invigorating, big-picture discussions, even as industry “disrupters.” Freedom to work with like-minded entrepreneurs sharing our commitment to customer service, and to nurture the next crop of Top Agents, proud that, in some small way, we helped them get there. And, freedom to explore new business opportunities ancillary to selling real estate, relishing the challenges they present. Because we invested and saved much of the money we had earned, we were in a financial position to do all of that by opening our own brokerage.
As to the “how” of making it work financially: volume.
We are committed to transparency, and candidly share that we likely could have made big bucks by expanding our team under our old brokerage, or opening our own traditional brokerage, and taking a huge chunk of our agents’ commissions. But that’s not the life we wanted to build. We believe that the old system is broken and becoming obsolete. Instead, we figured out how to continue making a good income through volume and taking advantage of economies of scale. Receiving small amounts from many agents produces big rewards for both the agents and the brokerage. The better our agents do, the better we do; our fortunes are tied. So, to nurture our agents’ growth, we offer extensive free training and support programs, and pass on the lower prices that come with economies of scale, such as cheaper online lead generation packages and lower postage costs. Additionally, as experienced agents ourselves, we know what related services agents need to be efficient and profitable. So, we also created optional services such as our “Focus” customer touch program, which offer high quality customer touches at a fraction of traditional costs, and provide us with another potential income stream.
With Momentum, Brittany, Bruce and I are building a close-knit community of ambitious, customer-focused, caring, and fun-loving entrepreneurs. It is exciting, lucrative, and enormously satisfying. So, while Momentum looks different from other brokerages, it is most definitely not “too good to be true,” and we invite you to explore us further.
