Estimate: asking price less the $50,000 homestead exemption × Okaloosa County rate (12.89 mills, county-average millage, 2025; verify with the property appraiser). Not a bill.
⚠️
Property taxes in Florida are reassessed after a sale, so a buyer’s first full-year bill can be higher than the seller’s. Budget from this estimate, not the current bill, before you make an offer.
Current owner’s estimated bill $1,625/yr ($135/mo) — taxable value $126,600 × 12.89 mills
$1,200 more each year
(+74%)
Most of this comes from Florida’s Save Our Homes assessment cap resetting when the home sells — the current owner’s protected assessment does not transfer to a new buyer.

Okaloosa and Cinco Bayou open upgraded boat ramp with new trailer parking
Okaloosa County and the Town of Cinco Bayou held a ribbon cutting for upgraded boat ramp facilities, including 16 new boat trailer parking spaces, a new restroom and landscaping. The $4.1 million total, funded largely by tourism development funds, also covers the $2.95 million purchase of a former bank building at 198 Eglin Parkway NE. Future dock improvements are planned.
Why it matters: Added trailer parking and ramp access improve waterfront recreation access for Fort Walton Beach area boaters. The project is about 9 miles southwest of Meigs S D, elsewhere in Okaloosa County.
Okaloosa commissioners reject 12-month data center moratorium 3-2
Okaloosa County commissioners voted 3-2 on September 15 against a 12-month data center moratorium. On September 3 the board unanimously directed staff to develop a regulatory framework for data centers, with an outline due within 60 days. No specific project or site was proposed, and commissioners discussed protecting the Shoal River Industrial Park.
Why it matters: The pending rules will shape where large power-and-land-intensive facilities can locate in the county, including industrial land near Crestview. The project is about 19 miles north of Meigs S D, elsewhere in Okaloosa County.
Destin and Okaloosa County agree on management of 4-acre Holiday Isle state park
Destin and Okaloosa County unanimously agreed to back Destin as manager and developer of the roughly four-acre state-acquired park on Holiday Isle near Norriego Point. In return, Destin council voted 5-2 to offer free parking to all Okaloosa County residents at city-owned lots and parks. The deal still requires state Board of Trustees and DEP review.
Why it matters: Management of the Holiday Isle park and city parking rules will affect public waterfront access and parking in Destin. The project is about 6 miles south of Meigs S D, elsewhere in Okaloosa County.
DeSantis signs state budget with funding for Okaloosa County projects
Governor DeSantis signed the state budget that included roughly $15 million for 20 Okaloosa County projects, among them $5 million for the Northwest Florida State College Workforce Innovation Center in Niceville, $1.5 million for Shalimar Bridge Park, and $3 million for Destin road and drainage work. About $7.26 million in other local requests were vetoed.
Why it matters: Directs state funding toward workforce, park, road, and drainage infrastructure across Okaloosa County, supporting public facilities and capacity in Niceville, Shalimar, and Destin. The site is about 3 miles north of Meigs S D.

Frequently asked questions
How big is 234 Deer Street and when was it built?
Per the listing record, 234 Deer Street was built in 1973 and has 3 bedrooms and 1.0 bathrooms. Living area and lot size come from the MLS record and should be verified against the county property appraiser.
What community is 234 Deer Street in?
234 Deer Street is in Meigs S/D in Niceville, Okaloosa County. Too few comparable closed sales exist nearby for this page to show local sales statistics; a licensed agent can prepare a comparative market analysis.
Why might property taxes on 234 Deer Street differ from the current owner's?
The estimate on this page (about $2,825 per year) assumes reassessment at the list price less the homestead exemption. Estimated buyer taxes are about $1,200 more per year than the current owner’s estimated bill (+74%). Florida reassesses a home after it sells; for a homesteaded seller the Save Our Homes cap on their assessment does not transfer, and a buyer's own exemptions and portability are applied separately, so the two bills usually differ. Any tax figure shown here is an estimate, not the actual bill — confirm with the county property appraiser and tax collector.
Is 234 Deer Street in a flood zone?
A flood designation has not been verified for this address. Look up the parcel on FEMA's Flood Map Service Center (msc.fema.gov) and confirm with your insurer.
Can I rely on the figures on this page?
No. Estimated taxes, insurance, payments, and any market or comparable-sales summary are opinions and estimates for general information only and should not be relied upon. Verify all information independently before making any decision.
